May 25, 2006 Contact: Daryl Risinger 805.562.0511 Inogen One Granted Medical Design Excellence Award
SANTA BARBARA, CA -
The Inogen One Oxygen Concentrator has been selected as a recipient of the Medical Design Excellence Awards as a groundbreaking innovation changing the face of health care. The Medical Design Excellence Awards competition is the only awards program that exclusively recognizes contributions and advances in the design of medical products.
The Inogen One, developed by Goleta, California based Inogen, Inc. is used during the treatment of respiratory diseases
requiring supplemental oxygen. Replacing traditional bulky stationary oxygen concentrators or cylinders, at less
than 10 pounds, the Inogen One provides oxygen to its users at home, around their community, and even while traveling.
"The award certainly gives the Inogen team reward and satisfaction knowing it's not only the patients using the Inogen One,
but that our peers recognize the innovation in the device" said Geoff Deane, Inogen Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Engineering.
Entries in the Medical Design Excellence Awards are evaluated on the basis of their design and engineering features,
including innovative use of materials, user-related functions that improve healthcare delivery and change traditional
medical attitudes or practices, features that provide enhanced benefits to the patient, and the ability of the product
development team to overcome design and engineering challenges so the product meets it clinical objectives. A comprehensive
review of the entries was performed by an impartial, multidisciplinary panel of third-party jurors with expertise in biomedical
engineering, human factors, industrial design, medicine and diagnostics.
Becoming widely adopted since the Federal Aviation Administration announced passengers may use certain portable oxygen concentrators
onboard commercial flights in July 2005, the Inogen One is a favorite among oxygen users. "The Inogen One has given me the ability to
live my life freely and independently." said Valerie Andree, an Inogen One user who travels frequently with the device. "Traveling is
now more than a wish. Nothing compares to the freedom I now have with my Inogen One."
The 2006 Medical Design Excellence Award winners will be honored at a June 7 ceremony during the Medical Design & Manufacturing East Conference
and Exposition in New York City's Javits Convention Center.
