New Website and Online Community for Oxygen Therapy
SANTA BARBARA, CA -
A new website focused on lung disorders and oxygen therapy has been developed to serve as a resource and online community for its visitors. www.OxygeNation.com, launched July 1, 2006, will assist those affected by respiratory diseases, specifically those requiring oxygen therapy.
OxygeNation offers educational tools which include disease information, types of equipment available to patients, traveling with oxygen and locations of support groups for those requiring supplemental oxygen.
Many patients and health care providers have recognized the lack of good information available to oxygen users. Paul Joslin, who has been on oxygen therapy for 2 years, is one such individual. “It can be extremely frustrating when I try to find the information I’m looking for, whether it’s about my disease or how to facilitate travel with oxygen.”
The first recommendation from the 6th Long Term Oxygen Therapy (LTOT) Consensus Conference held last year in Denver stated that in order to assure quality LTOT patient care, it is recommended to provide comprehensive education for patients, physicians, families and respiratory professionals. Easy-to-use, understandable and readily available educational resources should be developed to meet these needs.
“OxygeNation does just that,” said Kathy Odell, CEO of Goleta, California based Inogen. “We’re extremely proud of our commitment to the development of this important resource. Since our company’s inception, we have remained focused on improving the quality of life of oxygen users and those with respiratory disorders.” Dr. Jeffrey Kupperman, Chairman of Pulmonary Medicine at Santa Barbara’s Cottage Hospital and President of the California Thoracic Society, stated, “Oxygen patients need a one-stop, well rounded resource for education and a community to connect with others afflicted by respiratory and lung diseases. OxygeNation meets all these needs.”
The second phase of OxygeNation, scheduled for launch later this year, will introduce the community and forum component. The forum section will facilitate message boards and a live question and answer segment. The O2 Crew will be a fully functioning community. Users will be able to make a personal profile and share it with other oxygen patients; therefore, being able to connect with others, get advice, send messages or simply talk to one another.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Alpha-1, Cystic Fibrosis and Asthma are all disorders extensively covered on the site. Fifty eight million people suffer from these diseases combined and there are 1.6 million oxygen patients in the United States.
OxygeNation is a comprehensive resource on the World Wide Web for people who use supplemental oxygen and their families. The site provides information about living with COPD, the latest treatment options and the ability to exchange information in a community dedicated to getting the most out of life on oxygen.
